THIS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 21

“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!"
Matthew 7:7-12

Pretty soon, kids will be KNOCKING on doors of neighbors and strangers, ASKING for, and SEEKING, sweet treats to eat. Once upon a time, those who withheld treats could expect wrathful youth to pull some kind of prank outside their door. The real TRICK many parents dread, though, is the potential danger lurking on the inside of that door. As our fear of the unknown meets our imagination, we second guess knocking on anyone's door.

Is there some related fear in us, when it comes to asking ASKING, SEEKING, and KNOCKING on God's door? Why does Jesus need to assuage our concerns? What kind of TRICK do we imagine God will play upon us? Do we believe Jesus? Can we trust God?
