Who has trumpets?
While few of us have had the honor of a brass band salute (in a synagogue, no less), we do have other means by which we broadcast our generosity. We have social media. We have plaques. We have ceremonies. While there is ample room to encourage one another, even publicly, Jesus is getting at something core to our human nature - phony generosity, as opposed to giving from a place of love.
When you give, who sees your gift?
Who sees your heart, and your motive?
We know who.
But we forget.
