THIS SUNDAY: TWO BOATS

Remember our April 3rd gathering at Fisherman's Terminal? Against a backdrop of boats, we pondered Jesus' calling to become "fishers of men," and how small crews of disciples are sent out to harvest - to connect with people and invite them into life in Christ. We gather as the church - like crews of boats in harbor - but we scatter for mission, sent out in teams. Part of this gathering/scattering rhythm includes working on boats and training the crew. Emmaus Road is taking tomorrow, July 17th, to spread out in two directions, to work on a couple boats and train a couple crews:
  • in South Park, we are invited to the Ruiters' home to pray, fellowship, and work for a few hours helping Dan and Reba cultivate a space for neighborhood hospitality (yard work).
  • up in Lake Forest Park, Mike and Teresa Elenbaas have invited Emmaus Road households from the north end to come over and discuss launching a new group.

PARABLES OF HIDDEN KINGDOM; AURORA COMMONS DONATIONS

THIS SUNDAY - PARABLES OF THE HIDDEN KINGDOM

Mark 4:21-34 includes a group of short parables which reveal the hidden nature of the Kingdom
What do we not see? What gets in the way of seeing?
Why did Jesus use parables with the public, but direct explanation with his disciples?
What can we take away from Jesus' model of teaching?
