When our omniscient God asks a question, as he does in Genesis 3:9, you know he is after more than information. Adam and Eve once walked with God in the Garden. Now they hide from him. "Where are you?" he asks, confronting the dreadful change that has taken place, drawing out confession from fallen children.
The question echoes across the ages, broadening out to all humanity. He asks us, so that we will consider where we have gone. Where are we with God, and how have we arrived?
